We’re big fans of Basement Jaxx, so when we were asked to collaborate with them and some other really awesome people from around the world to make a really awesome website we jumped at the chance.
Power To The People . fm is a website made to enable people from all over the world to make music together. Whether you are a solo singer, choir, guitarist, pianist, orchestra (like the The Recycled Orchestra of Catuera who make musical instruments out of rubbish!!), rapper, dancer, performer, film maker or DJ, you can add your verse of kumbaya to the melodic sounds emanating from around the campfire.
Felix explains it much more eloquently here and we like his sentiments.
Our own RobMan is pretty nifty on the drums, and together with his brother they made their own version of the song.
I bet Rob thought that would be his contribution over with. We’re rather pleased that he didn’t stop there though, as he made the site look really pretty.
For the technical side of our collaboration, we used soundcloud and vimeo APIs to create an html5 mixer. Users can upload their element, be it the chorus, verse, beat or visual to the site and then anyone can be a DJ to mix these elements from around the world to create a global version of the ‘Power to the People’ song.
We loved working with Basement Jaxx and being a part of this amazing project.
‘If we come together, we can do something amazing.’
So go check out the site!
